About Poland School

Szkola Podstawowa nr 10 im. Gustawa Morcinka

The school is in the process of changes as a result of the Reform of Education. It is now one school that developed as a combination of pre-reform primary school (children aged 6-13) and pre-reform gimnazjum (students aged 13-16). That caused totally new situation both for teachers and students together with their families. Next year about 250 students are going to graduate from our school and only 90 are going to enter it. Our strengths: Students eager to take part in various activities, competitions and clubs as well at school and in other places. Experienced teachers, working with modern teaching methods, cooperating and solving problems together. The head teacher open to innovation and supportive. The school has taken part in many programmes and actions focused on minimizing bullying, violence and hate speech both in real life and the Internet. Every year we organize Family Picnic and Christmas Charity Fair for children, parents and teachers. As well, we take part and organize sports events and tournaments. Our school has good sport background, and it is situated near the forest, so lots of outdoor activities and sports can be held. Needs: We observe that more and more children and teenagers have psychological problems caused by their home situation, they undergo addictions, play truant and behave violently. Refugees from Ukraine come to Poland because of their economical or political situation and their children go to our school. For many people in our school it is a new and sometimes unexpected situation in a so far homogeneous society. Therefore, we need a strategy for a better inclusion of such disadvantaged categories. Also, we need a better approach to integrating students who suffer from various syndromes or diseases (ca 60 sts) We need to become attractive in the local community Expectations: Participation in the project will improve the school atmosphere, as well as provide a chance for students and teachers to improve language skills. The students will experience that learning foreign languages are useful and give them lots of possibilities like making friends, travelling abroad, meeting new cultures. That, furthermore, will make them more open to different cultures and minimize xenophobia and discrimination. Actions taken in order to counteract discrimination and bullying will be held outside the classroom and will be cross-curricular. Students working on project together will learn how to cooperate and they will spend time in school doing something more than learning and being in the classroom. As far as our teachers are concerned, the project is a great chance to make new and old teachers cooperate and integrate and learn from each other. The key staff involved will be Agata Mazurek (school counsellor), Joanna Czupała-Motyka (PE teacher), Katarzyna Brzezinka (Polish teacher and vice headteacher), Dominika Wasilewska-Czurczak (Maths, Geography and supporting teacher), Agnieszka Baron (Polish teacher), Danuta Urbańczyk (English teacher), Magdalena Mazur (English teacher), Agnieszka Duda (English teacher and project coordinator).
