About Turkey School

We are a newly established private school with branches from nursery level to high school. In the current year, there are 153 students aged 12-14 and they are taught by 18 teachers. We put emphasis on the learning of foreign languages, as the key for students to get to meet new cultures and communicate effectively with European students. Our teachers and students are very eager to participate in this project. Since we are a newly established school, we still have a lot of work to do in terms of bringing students and teachers together, creating group cohesion and eliminating conflict or possibility of conflict from the school environment. We want to provide our students with models of behaviour and responsibility. That is why, bringing students in the company of other students will boost their knowledge and acceptance of other cultures, will help them get to know each other better and eliminate cultural differences. We don’t have any expertise in dealing with bullying as most of the teachers are very young and do not have extensive previous experience. We would like to learn from other schools about what their strategies are in dealing with this phenomenon, so that we can reduce it and prevent it from happening in the future. The school should be a place where students feel unthreatened, comfortable and happy, so that they can obtain the best results. If they are victims of bullying, this can have a negative impact on them, they become vulnerable and do not have the chance to show their true potential. We are very enthusiastic about the project, as we think that it will give the opportunity for teachers and students from across Europe to meet and work together, make friends, exchange impressions and views about our countries, ge to know each other in more depth, which is one of the best ways to reduce xenophobia and racism. With this project, we hope that both teachers and students will learn about bullying, the causes and effects, will become more responsible and will develop their tolerance. As a result, our school will become a safer environment and will also boost its image in the local community. Three people will be involved actively in the project: Leyla Kirs (headmistress), Hakan Sahinturk (school guidance), Sultan Toprak (English teacher). They will work together as a team, in order to fulfill all the duties related to the project. There will also be other teachers involved in the preparation of activities that our school will host, in the preparation of students for exchanges (Geography teacher etc.)
